Tending to the needs of the whole community is part of the mission of Dukes Memorial Hospital. Many members of our community were aware that those senior adults requiring a retirement type community setting had to move away from family and friends to seek such accommodations. Several individuals approached our hospital Board members and our CEO regarding this void in the community. Mennonite Health Services of Goshen. IN, were contacted to conduct a marketing study to determine the actual needs of our community and what type of senior living community would be required to meet those needs. This study incorporated the surrounding areas within a 25 mile radius. First, demographic studies were conducted and when those results appeared favorable, then surveys were conducted to citizens within this same area. Mailed surveys, telephone surveys, and community focus groups were all conducted, the results of which appeared to be very positive. The Board of Directors then decided to move forward with the project.
